Make-Ahead MVP Turkey Chili

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground turkey
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 1/2 tbsp oil
  • 15 oz can tomato sauce
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 15 oz can red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 8 oz. beer
  • 5-10 dashes hot sauce or tabasco
  • 1/2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 3 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp salt or to taste

Garnish

  • shredded cheddar (optional)
  • low-fat sour cream (optional)

Directions

  1. Heat oil in large pot over medium heat. Add onion and cook until translucent, about 3-5 minutes. Add ground turkey and cook until browned, stirring occasionally, about 7 minutes.

  2. Stir in remaining ingredients with the exception of shredded cheddar and sour cream.  Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes.

  3. If making ahead, cool and refrigerate overnight.  Before the big game, transfer chili to a slow cooker and set to warm.  Serve in bowl and top with shredded cheddar and sour cream.
